Lexar JumpDrive C25i Review for iPhone or iPad

Lexar JumpDrive C25i review

If you have an iPhone, you are probably all too familiar with the pop message that reads “Storage Almost Full – You can manage your storage in Settings.” Even those of us with high-capacity iPhones are frequently deleting photos, videos, songs or documents in order to make room for new data. Since iCloud only offers 5GB of free storage, iPhone users have no choice other than to delete data or data dump on to their computer in order to free up space. Now Lexar offers us with an alternative solution. Without further delay, let’s take a closer look in this Lexar JumpDrive C25i review.

Lexar JumpDrive C25i Review

Design and Features

Often times, deleting valuable data off your phone is not an option, and since the iPhone is a mobile-device, you probably do not always have your computer nearby to perform a data dump.

Introducing the Lexar C25i JumpDrive for iOS. With drive capacities ranging from 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB, Lexar has created a product that expands the memory of your iPhone and allows for convenient portable storage. For iPhone users that take large videos or store a lot of music on their phone, the C25i is a godsend. Lexar’s solution is simple and efficient.

[envira-gallery id=”8715″]

Using the Lexar Media Manager app for iOS, you simply plug the C25i into the Lightning connector at the base of your iPhone, click on the app, choose which files to move onto your jump drive and which to leave on your internal drive. If you want to playback files that you have transferred to your C25i, you just plug the device into your phone and open the file via the Media Manager app. When you are ready to transfer the files to your computer, you merely plug in the USB 3.0 and download the files as you would with any standard flash drive. The C25i requires no batteries or network connection to operate, uploads quickly and sports a sleek metal design.

Only music files not protected by Digital Rights Management (DRM) can be managed with the Lexar Media Manager app. You will not be able to select grayed-out, DRM-protected files.

“The app is compatible with iPhone 5/5s/5c, iPhone 6/6s/6s Plus, iPhone 7/7 Plus, iPhone SE, iPad mini 2/3/4, iPad 4, iPad Air 1/2, iPad Pro 9.7 inch/12.9 inch, and iPod touch (sixth generation).”

Final Thoughts

With the 64GB model priced at $71.49 on Amazon ($94.99 Retail), Lexar’s C25i is quite a bit more expensive than your standard 64GB USB flash drive, but this device offers far more functionality and compatibility than the average portable drive. With its modern physical design, intuitive app, high-speed transfers, and simple iOS integration; the Lexar C25i JumpDrive is a high-value investment for any Apple iOS user.

Beyerdynamic T51i Headphones Review

Beyerdynamic T51i Headphones Review

Crafting a good on-ear headphone can be challenging for audio manufacturers. Listeners expect the full-bodied sound and isolation of an over-headphone in a much more compact design. It is no secret that Beyerdynamic’s audio products are some of the best on the market, and they remind us how they have earned that reputation with these superb on-ear headphones. So without further delay, let’s take a closer look in this Beyerdynamic T51i headphones review.

T51i Design and Features

I love the look of the T51i. The metal headband and frame give these headphones a vintage look. Beyerdynamic masterfully blends the old with the new, combining this vintage design with modern elements to enhance comfort. The ear pads and headband are made of a soft leather-wrapped memory foam. The ear pads are extremely comfortable and provide impressive isolation for an on-ear headphone. The earphones rotate 90 degrees for added comfort.

The Y-shaped 3.5mm cable has a nice malleable jacket that prevents the wire from becoming tangled. The headphone jack is a slim right-angle plug which works perfectly for carrying your iPhone in your pocket without putting stress on the connector.

Beyerdynamic T51i Headphones Review

The inline volume switch works very well with my iPhone 6s for volume, play/pause, skipping and taking phone calls. To the touch, the buttons on the inline remote can be hard to tell apart, so when I first got the headphones, I would often pause the track when trying to adjust the volume. However, after a few days of using the headphones, you get used to the position of the remote’s buttons, and it works seamlessly. It would be welcoming to see a detachable mini-cable for these headphones since the hardware will likely outlast the cabling.

Overall the build quality of the T51i is outstanding.

Audio Performance

When it comes to sound, Beyerdynamic has always set the bar for competitors, and with the T51i, they have created an on-ear headphone that is a cut above the rest. These headphones are exceptionally articulate in reproducing detailed sounds but are never harsh.

The overall sound is warm yet balanced. I was pleasantly surprised with the bass presence on the T51i; the low end is thick, but not overwhelming. Beyerdynamic does a great job here at creating a versatile headphone for all genres of music. I enjoyed listening to a variety of different artists on the T51i. From the thicker production sounds of Hip-Hop and Rhythm and Blues to the articulate and delicate sounds of Classical and Jazz… the T51i does it all.

Conclusion

Beyerdynamic’s T51i is one of the best on-ear headphones on the market. With high-quality materials, superb sound and great comfort; few on-ear headphones can compete. For Apple iPhone/iPod/iPad users, the inline remote works great, and the eye-catching retro design makes the T51i the full package in the world of on-ears.

The headphones are comfortable but can cause slight ear fatigue after wearing for a couple of hours. At $189, the T51i is one of the best on-ear headphones you can get your hands on and are priced well against their competition. I highly recommend you try them out.

Audio-Technica ATH-SR5BT Headphones Review

09/28/2016 By Elliott Hall

Audio-Technica ATH-SR5BT Headphones Review

Audio-Technica has released the latest evolution in their high-resolution audio headphones. Sound Reality Headphones are intended for the on-the-go music listener who wants the best in sound realism. Engineered with Closed-back Dynamic 45mm ‘True Motion Drivers,’ these on-ear headphones are designed to deliver the most detailed audio reproduction. With a smaller design and Bluetooth capability, these headphones are ideal for the everyday commuter. Let’s take a closer look at this Audio-Technica ATH-SR5BT Headphones Review.

Audio-Technica ATH-SR5BT Headphones Review

Hi-Res Audio / Sound Reality Design

These on-ear headphones have a well-executed design. These sleek headphones come in two colors: Black and White.

Since I recently reviewed the ATH-MSR7 hi-res audio headphones, I already had an idea of what these headphones might be like. Straight out of the box; they exceeded my expectations. In our previous review, we noted that the headband was a little bit too tight, and the over-ear cushions were slightly too shallow, causing your ear to rub up against the speaker occasionally – this was not at all the case with the ATH-SR5BT. Perhaps it is because these are on-ear headphones, as opposed to over-ear headphones. Regardless, I found the cushioning on these to be much thicker, softer and more comfortable.

The overall design of these headphones is much like a scaled down version the ATH-MSR7, but with the same 45mm True Motion Drivers. The headphones weigh in at 6.5 ounces, a bit more with the 3.9′ cable. The package contents include a soft cloth carrying case, a 3.9′ audio cable for wired use, and a 3.3′ USB cable.

There are several features on these headphones that allow for comprehensive functionality, without having to pull your phone out of your pocket. The left earphone features a condenser mic, a multi-function Play/Pause/Skip/Call switch, a micro-USB charging port, and a 3.5mm jack for wired use. On the right earphone, there is an On/Off button for Bluetooth pairing.

Hi-Res Audio Performance

When reviewing headphones, the most important performance factor is the quality of sound. Since the ATH-SR5BT are Bluetooth headphones, we have two sound profiles to consider: wired and wireless sound.

As wired headphones, the ATH-ST5BT sounded great. Much like the ATH-MSR7, there’s a bright sound balance. Consequently, I found myself slightly dissatisfied with the bass presence in certain genres, one being Hip-Hop. As noted in our ATH-MSR7 review, if you are a bass head, these are not the headphones for you. However, many audio companies drown their sound profile in the low-frequency (bass) range, making it hard to appreciate the finer parts of music. Audio-Technica cannot be faulted for their sound profile, which is overall very neutral and handles all music well. With wired use, the high-resolution audio offered high-quality detail – the type of detail that makes you hear a new layer of sound in a song that you have known forever.[Tweet “As wired headphones, the ATH-ST5BT sounded great. Much like the ATH-MSR7, there’s a bright sound balance.”]

The Bluetooth sound profile is satisfying. If you are an audiophile, you will notice that the sound is slightly thinner with Bluetooth than it is with wired use, but that is to be expected. As far as wireless music goes, these headphones perform very well, and I have to say, I enjoyed being cable-free during my commute.

With an iPhone 6s, the Bluetooth pairing works outstandingly well. After adding the “ATH-SR5BT” to your saved Bluetooth devices, and powering them on, the connection is instant. The only issue I found with the Bluetooth connectivity was that the headphones volume and the iPhone volume do not link together, so you will have to sync up the two volumes accordingly. More importantly, these headphones offer superb battery life, lasting up to 38 hours on a single charge courtesy of the 3.7V DC lithium polymer battery. Your mobile device’s battery will die quicker with Bluetooth enabled, but you won’t find the need charge these headphones frequently, even with heavy use. And when you do, it will take approximately four hours to recharge.

Conclusion

At $199, these headphones are a good buy. They feature a classy and sleek design. They offer high-performance Bluetooth connectivity, battery longevity, and even the option of high-resolution audio for critical listening. It’s important to remember that Bluetooth is incapable of streaming audio at high-resolution quality. If you’re in it for the audio alone, check out a different pair of headphones like Audio-Technica’s MSR7 (you can find our review here). If you are looking for a high-value, on-ear headphone, with high-performance Bluetooth capability, look no further than the Audio-Technica SR5BT.

Triby Review: Alexa Smart Speaker

Triby Review: The Portable Voice-Enabled Smart Speaker with Amazon’s Alexa

Have you ever imagined the future and wondered what technology in the home would be like? Would we be floating around on Back to the Future II hover boards or living with a robot maid like The Jetsons? While the 21st Century has brought us flying jetpacks and iRobot vacuum cleaners, there is intelligent software residing in US homes, and it goes by the name “Alexa.” Alexa is Amazon’s wireless, voice-activated digital assistant. Alexa can be used to play music, set alarms, make calls, control smart lights, and so much more. Initially, the only product utilizing Alexa’s technology was Amazon’s “Echo” smart speaker. A new contender has entered the race following Amazon’s release of a free set of API’s that enable developers to integrate Alexa with any device that has a speaker, microphone, and Internet connection. Introducing Triby, the voice-enabled portable smart speaker from Invoxia.

Want to win this Triby? In cooperation with Invoxia, we’re giving away this Triby review sample beginning Monday at 11 PM through Noon January 10th. Enter the Giveaway. It could be yours soon after CES2017. If you’re heading to CES, please visit Invoxia at Booth 44303 at Sands Hall. Good Luck.

Introducing Triby

Triby is an alternate version of Amazon’s Echo; that utilizes the very same Alexa technology, but with a third-party design. Triby is a digital assistant capable of performing the same functions of the Echo, and even some unique ones. While this is not a review of the Alexa software, it is important to remember that Alexa is a lot like Siri, Apple’s voice-activated iPhone assistant. Though Alexa has far more capabilities than Siri, it is fundamentally similar software and is prone to the same issues you run into on your mobile device.

For instance: “Sorry, I didn’t understand the question I heard.”

The most important thing about Alexa is that it is a notable step towards a mainstream interface for controlling your smart home devices, the Internet of Things. With a little more intelligence, Alexa could become even more widely used software, across various devices. Now that Amazon has opened the door to third-party developers, there exists strong competition to the Echo, and that is how we find ourselves today with this Triby review.

Pros:
• Good Sound
• Screen/Message Board
• Alexa Technology
• Quality Construction
• Dedicated App

Cons:
• Bluetooth Issues
• Poor Battery Life
• Voice-Activation/Microphone Issues
• Magnetic Strips Could Harm Other Devices

Triby review

Design

From a design perspective, Echo and Triby are nothing alike. The Echo is a tall, tubular speaker with buttons located at the top of the cylinder. You’ve probably seen the TV commercial starring Missy Elliott and Alec Baldwin.

The Triby has a much slimmer, square design, with ten buttons, a small e-ink screen, and a charging port. Though the design is unique with a modern/vintage combination, it is not the sleekest looking unit on the market.

The designers of Triby advise you to stick the device directly on your refrigerator, a central location in most homes, and somewhere that everyone in the house visits daily. On the back of the Triby are two vertical magnetic strips, which allow you to place it on any magnetic surface. Oddly enough, many fridges are not magnetic, but I found myself sticking the Triby all over the place from metal patio chairs to my dishwasher.

My only concern with the magnetic backing is that it could be harmful to some electronic devices such as your mobile phone, tablet, or laptop if you were to store it in your backpack or somewhere close to a similar device.

The Triby is wrapped in a non-skid rubber sleeve. There are four color options for the rubber sleeve (gray, green, blue, and red), so you can customize your Triby to match your personality or home décor.

Features & Performance

One of the features unique to the Triby is this sort of ‘modern-day sticky note’ style message board. From the Android of iOS app on your mobile phone, you can send messages or illustrations called “Doodles” from your phone to Triby. When the message is sent, the yellow message alert tab pops out of the side of Triby, and your message is displayed on the e-ink screen. Triby’s message board feature is a convenient alternative to texting for families who want to send messages to the home while they are away. It should be noted that the most recent message will be displayed. Past messages and read receipts can be seen via the app. Triby’s message board is one of the standout features that sets it apart from Amazon’s Echo, which does not offer an on-screen message function.

Triby review

Read:   Speck's New Business Travel Laptop Backpack and Bag

Now, according to publicly available data, 40% of US homes have removed their landlines. If you reside in the remaining 60% of US homes, Triby gives you yet another great reason to finally cut that cord. Through the integrated app, you can load contacts into your Triby and use it to make free Internet calls. Triby’s family phone is especially useful for parents, as children can access the pre-loaded contacts, and use the two dedicated phone buttons to safely call friends or family. Triby can handle voice recognition from up to 15 feet away. The one downside I found with calling on Triby is that it’s not capable of making or receiving emergency (911) calls.

For on-the-go music listeners, Triby has got your back. As a Bluetooth speaker, Triby excels! Though the device is small, the sound is big and warm. As with all Bluetooth devices, there can be a bit of ‘jumpy-ness’ to certain functions based on range, but aside from the occasionally sporadic volume adjustments, everything runs smoothly with Triby. If connected to WiFi, Triby can access Amazon Prime Music, iHeart Radio, Spotify Connect, TuneIn, and more just by a click of one of the two dedicated radio buttons. You can even assign your favorite playlists to the dedicated radio buttons and use them with Alexa disabled. Another great feature is that you can put multiple Triby’s on the same WiFi network and use them as an Intercom system. Each Triby receives a unique ID name.

Updated: In late August, Invoxia added a feature to Triby — an Alexa Tap to Talk mode. A number of users complained that Triby’s battery life wasn’t as long as they wanted. The issue was that the microphone was always on and waiting to hear the wake word. When charging Triby, there’s really no issue. You can either say the wake word or press the right side button to begin. When not charging, you must press the same button for Alexa to begin listening.

Activating the Tap to Talk mode is a snap. Make sure the Triby app is updated first. Go into Settings, and select Amazon Alexa. Here you activate/deactivate said mode. Check the upper left corner of the product screen for the microphone icon.

Speaking of Spotify, if you’re one of the first 100 to purchase a Triby beginning on Labor Day, you can get Spotify Premium for the next 3 months for free. Enter the Promo Code: SPOTIFY at checkout. It’s that simple.

[Tweet “As a Bluetooth speaker, Triby excels! Though the device is small, the sound is big and warm.”]

All in all, the design of Triby is quite good. The dedicated buttons make it convenient and quick to make calls as well as play music. The magnetic backing allows you to place the device in central locations in your home, without having to place it precariously or find table space. The message board feature is an excellent communication alternative for families or to leave a digital sticky note behind for the next user.

My only complaint about Triby’s on-screen interface is the lack of a constant battery meter. Since Triby is entirely portable, it needs to be recharged every 48 hours. It was inconvenient that I could not simply look at the corner of the screen and see how much ‘juice’ was left.

Lastly, and I am nitpicking here, it would have been nice to see a dedicated On/Off button for Triby. To power on the device, you hold the Play/Pause button for two seconds, at which point the screen will launch a prompt telling you that Triby is starting up. To power down the device, you hold the Play/Pause button for five seconds, at which point the on-screen prompt will ask for power down confirmation by pressing the first phone button. However, if you hold the Play/Pause button for longer than five seconds, nothing will happen, and you may find yourself pressing it a few more times while counting down the seconds to get it just right.

Ultimately, I found the On/Off functions to work fine but wonder why Triby’s designers did not include a dedicated power button among the other ten buttons.

Editor’s Note

In my research on Triby, I encountered one particular Q&A between Triby Support. I felt it was worth sharing with you readers.

Question: “I already have an Echo near my kitchen. If I put a Triby withing ‘hearing’ distance of my Echo what happens when I say ‘Alexa’?”

Answer: “If your Echo is currently set to respond to the wake word ‘Alexa’ then, yes, both your Echo and Triby will respond to the same voice commands which could make things a bit tricky! That said, you could certainly change the wake word for your Echo to ‘Echo’ or ‘Amazon’ and keep Triby’s wake word as ‘Alexa.’ That way, you’ll get to deliver voice commands to the device of your choosing.”

Conclusion

Per Invoxia’s website “Alexa is capable of handling a wide array of tasks on a user’s command, from playing music from local and web-based libraries to searching the Internet for flight deals, to ordering a ride on Uber. And all of those skills, when packaged inside a portable speaker and communications hub, become Triby.”

Upon completing this thorough Triby review, I can wholeheartedly say I liked the Triby quite a bit. It is the first third-party product to use Alexa, and I thought it handled the challenge well. Additionally, Invoxia, the makers of Triby, included some extra functions that you will not find on the Echo. Just like Alexa, the Triby needs time to work out the kinks, but I think there is a bright future for both IoT technologies.

Triby is slightly more expensive than Echo, coming in at $199.00 from Amazon. Pick one up today and see if you can make your life a little bit easier through the use of a digital assistant.

Catalyst Waterproof iPhone 6s Case Review

Catalyst waterproof iphone 6s case review

Introducing the Catalyst Waterproof Case for iPhone 6s

Catalyst waterproof iphone 6s case reviewSo, you’ve spent some $600 or more on your new iPhone 6s. Or maybe, you purchased one at a discount during a device upgrade. Either way, you’ve got one. Outside of figuring out how the darn thing works, how do you protect it? While many of us don’t use a protective case, we all know that it’s a no-brainer to. Think about it? How many times have you seen a broken iPhone screen? Now, there are dozens of protective case makers out there, with hundreds of models to choose from. But what type of protection does your device need? Moreover, how do you protect it from the elements? If you work outdoors or partake in outdoor activities, have you considered a waterproof case? Below, we review one such product, the Catalyst waterproof iPhone 6s case. We investigate how the Catalyst case stacks up as a waterproof, daily phone case, and how it performs compared to competitors like LifeProof.

Pros:

  • Lightweight
  • Waterproof (16.4’/5m)
  • Drop Proof (6.6’/2m)
  • Dirt/Snow Proof
  • Attractive Design

Cons:

  • Stiff Buttons
  • Screen Protector reduces touch screen sensitivity

GIVEAWAY

Now, if this isn’t good enough, we’re giving away two (2) iPhone 6s waterproof cases in black and space gray, in partnership with Catalyst Case.

Update: The giveaway is now over.

DESIGN FEATURES

The Catalyst is very sleek in appearance.

The case is thin, with rounded corners to mirror the design of your iPhone. While the case is slightly thicker (0.2 mm) than the LifeProof alternative, it is far thinner than many of the other waterproof competitors. Rubber bumpers surround the case to provide impact protection. Moreover, the case has a clear back to showcase the design of your iPhone.

While the case is lightweight, the materials of construction are high quality and ready for adventure.

PERFORMANCE

Right off the bat, Catalyst proves their case to be superior to LifeProof in its ability to safely go deeper underwater, up to 5 meters/16.4 feet (that is double LifeProof’s maximum depth). As advised by the instructions, I tested the case underwater, without my phone in it to ensure that the seals were all intact. Catalyst’s instructions suggested 30 minutes of submersion to test the new case. I left the case underwater for several hours. When I pulled it out, the interior of the case was bone dry.

The Catalyst waterproof iPhone 6s case includes rubber stoppers to plug up the lightning connector, headphone jack, and speaker.  While the stoppers proved effective underwater, they are not fixed to the case and can be easily misplaced. For daily use on dry land, the stoppers can be easily removed, with the cutouts providing a large enough area to comfortably accommodate standard adapters like 3.5mm headphone jacks and accessories like your Lightning connector.

Catalyst also offers a waterproof headphone extension for water sports enthusiasts who want to listen to music while they swim. This accessory is an additional $15 from the Catalyst website.

Regarding drop protection, the Catalyst case performed fairly well, but it is important to note that the primary function of this case is not drop protection but rather, water protection. The Catalyst case provides MIL-STD 810G shock and drop protection from a height of 2m/6.6 feet. This is not very high when compared to cases that prioritize drop protection, but is more than good enough should it fall from your pocket or slip from your hand at ear-height.

On all protective fronts, the Catalyst case performed well. However, there were a couple of issues with the accessibility to your phone after the case was installed. The biggest issue with this case is that it makes the buttons on your phone harder to use. I enjoyed the functionality of the click wheel for the mute switch, but the volume and hold buttons were very stiff and hard to press.

Catalyst waterproof iphone 6s case review

The only other issue with this case was touch screen sensitivity. The clear plastic cover on the front of the case provided excellent scratch protection, but as such it is moderately thick. Naturally, the thickness of the front screen decreased the sensitivity of my iPhone’s touch screen, making certain functions (like the drop down or drag up menus) difficult to access. I think the primary reason for this issue is not necessarily the thickness of the protective screen but rather, the slight gap between the plastic and the real screen. However, other functions like TouchID performed very well and were not hindered by the case.

CONCLUSION

All in all, I thought the Catalyst case performed well. Aside from the setbacks in accessibility, this case is aesthetically pleasing and high performing. Priced at $69.99, it is less expensive than the LifeProof alternative and outperforms the LifeProof in waterproof depth.

The standout function of this case is the deep-water protection. Taking your phone underwater is a dangerous game, and you need to know that it is going to be protected. With the Catalyst case, you can be sure that your phone is as amphibious as they come.

The Best Speck CandyShell iPhone 6/6s Cases of 2016

Speck CandyShell iPhone 6 case

Introducing Speck CandyShell iPhone 6/6s Cases

It’s 2016 and Speck has rolled out the newest models and designs of their iconic CandyShell cases for the Apple iPhone 6/6s. In this post, we’re taking a look at Speck’s latest editions–CandyShell Clear, CandyShell Inked Luxury, and CandyShell Inked Jonathan Adler. We’ll even tell you where to get your very own Jonathan Adler iPhone 6/6s case for less than half list.

One hint–it’s the internet’s leading retailer.

CandyShell Case Design and Function

All of the Speck CandyShell iPhone 6 case models fit like a glove on my recently purchased Apple iPhone.

Speck CandyShell iPhone 6 case

I had to push the cases on my iPhone more forcefully than used to with Speck products. But once it was on, the snug fit assured me that my iPhone was well-protected. The outside of the case is hard plastic with a non-slip, rubber-lined interior. A raised bezel runs the perimeter on the front of the case to protect the screen from scratches when your iPhone is faced down. At a thickness of 0.16 inch, the case is slim enough not to feel overly bulky, yet thick enough to provide ample impact protection at military-grade drop standards.

The power and volume controls click naturally beneath the rubber buttons with no fuss. At the top left of the case, there is an opening for the mute function, allowing you to operate the switch at its natural state on the iPhone. At the base of the case are openings for the 3.5mm audio jack, the Lightning adapter and the speaker. Avoiding the common issue of an improperly sized 3.5mm plug, the CandyShell cases provide a larger opening to accommodate a variety of audio jacks.

[soliloquy id="4850"]

The new CandyShell Clear and Clear with Glitter designs for iPhone 6/6s are the perfect way to show off the factory finish of your new mobile phone. These dual-layer cases offer military-grade drop protection and are either completely clear or offer some shimmering glitter to display the new finish of your iPhone 6/6s. If this isn’t enough, the CandyShell Clear is resistant to ultraviolet light and many chemicals, and it resists yellowing.

The CandyShell Inked Jonathan Adler Series offers eight “impeccable designs” from the world-renowned New Jersey-born designer. Coupled with all the same protective features; you will be inclined to put your iPhone face down, just to check out these unique designs.

Speckulations and Final Thoughts

All in all, these are excellent cases, which earn our highest recommendation. Speck continues to dominate with their CandyShell series’. List priced from $34.95-$49.95; these cases are a worthy purchase that will last you a long time. The hard plastic exterior and non-slip rubber interior provide a snug fit with MIL-STD-810G military-grade drop protection. The raised screen bezel ensures that your iPhone is shielded at all angles. There’s no compromise to the functionality of your iPhone 6/6s in any way. Moreover, the safety is significantly improved.

The CandyShell series has dozens of varieties and colors to find the perfect fit for your personality and lifestyle.

Speck’s CandyShell cases have a one-year limited warranty with a 30-day guarantee.

CandyShell Clear and Clear with Glitter are available at SpeckProducts, Amazon and other retailers with list pricing of $34.95 and $39.95, respectively.

CandyShell Inked Luxury Edition cases are available at SpeckProducts, Amazon and other retailers with list pricing of $49.95.

CandyShell Inked Jonathan Adler cases are available at SpeckProducts, Amazon and other retailers with list pricing of $49.95. Amazon currently has all eight designs between $12-18, which by our definition is a steal.

Petzi Treat Cam Review

Petzi Treat Cam review

Introducing The Petzi Treat Cam from Petzila

Pets are like our children. When you are away from your animal, you feel responsible for their loneliness. People often joke, “I wish my dog had a cell phone.”

Well, we have good news for all you animal lovers.

For the past few months, there’s been a new product on the market–the Petzi Treat Cam. It’s an interactive, WiFi camera that allows you to send audio messages, stream live video, and toss out treats to your pet while you’re away. The Petzi Treat Cam is operated through a free app for iOS and Android that doubles as a remote controller and social platform. Let’s take a closer look in this Petzi Treat Cam review.

Petzi Treat Cam review

Giveaway

Like what you’ve read so far? It just got better. In partnership with Petzila, we’re running a giveaway from Noon September 3rd until 11 AM September 12th for the very Petzi Treat Cam we reviewed here. Enter the Petzi Treat Cam giveaway by clicking this link. Good luck.

Set Up & Design

As you unbox the Petzi Treat Cam, you might realize that this is not a piece of furniture you want on your mantel. The tall, white, plastic design is far from elegant. As you pull off the front cover, you reveal the treat compartment at the top and the AC adapter at the rear. Pour in some of the included treats, plug it in and find an ideal spot to place the device. The four-foot power cord makes finding proper placement slightly difficult. Once you find an appropriate place for your treat cam, use the included screws or Velcro to secure it. You will not want to leave the Petzi free standing, as your pet will very likely knock it down. [envira-gallery id=”4729″]

Now you are ready to set up the WiFi connection. The treat cam easily integrates with your home network. First, download the iOS or Android app and connect to the “Petzi_XXXX” network via your mobile phone’s wireless settings. Next, return to the app and enter your home network password and securely integrate the Petzi with your WiFi connection. In my experience, this process worked seamlessly on the first try.

Remote Controller & Social App

Now that all your devices are connected, you can use your smartphone as a remote for the Petzi.

The free Petzi app will allow you to stream live video, take pictures, send audio messages and of course, launch treats. These functions work fairly well. The live video stream has a delay of a few seconds, so what you see on your phone is not exactly real time. Additionally, when you send audio messages, there are several seconds of delay before it is output by the camera. However, the delay is of little consequence, since your pet cannot see you and you cannot hear your pet – this is not Skype, after all. The picture function works consistently well, so you can snap candid photos of your unaccompanied pets as they await their treat.

[soliloquy id=”4710″]

The primary issue with the camera is that the Petzi does not always output the 720P HD quality that it boasts (though, this could be due to other factors such as your WiFi connection strength and speed). However, when the camera is outputting full quality video, you can get a great shot of your pet to share online or through the Petzi social app.

Aside from acting as a remote controller, your Petzi app allows you to set up a public profile for your pet. Similar to a dating or social media app, you input your pet’s name, age, species, a favorite treat, and more alongside a profile picture and description. Through your pet’s profile, you can post the images you take with your Petzi cam or images stored on your camera roll. Additionally, you can browse the app’s social feed featuring dogs and cats from all over the Petzi world.

Overall Performance

The Petzi Treat Cam has its strengths and weaknesses. As a camera, it falls a bit short. The video and audio qualities are less than satisfactory in an age of high definition, and there is a sizable delay in transmission. There is also the issue of the price. At a retail price of $170 this unit should perform better in aspects of design and media quality.

However, the primary function of this device is a treat dispenser and at that task, it performs fairly well. Aside from the occasional jamming of the treat dispenser, the Petzi Treat Cam has performed well for many people. It is an excellent way to connect with your pet while you are away from home. Animals love to interact with the Treat Cam, and its mild projectile launch allows your pet to have some fun and exercise in you absence.

[Tweet “It is an excellent way to connect with your pet while you are away from home. @Petzila”]

Overall, if you are looking for a remote treat dispenser, the Petzi Treat Cam is the best option, but if your focus is on the audio/video surveillance of your pet, then you are better off with a camera-centric device.

Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7 Review – SonicPro Headphones

Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7 review

Audio-Technica Introduces Us To High-Resolution Audio

The Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7 Review

Priced at around $250, the Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7 is easily the most affordable pair of headphones for producing high-resolution audio. These over-ear headphones are engineered with Audio-Technica’s 45mm ‘True Motion Drivers’, which are designed to deliver the most detailed audio reproduction. After using these headphones extensively in the home and studio setting, I can confidently say that they are some of the best headphones I have ever heard from Audio-Technica and a high-value investment for any audio purist. Let’s take a look in this Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7 review.

Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7 review

Pros:

  • Incredibly Precise Sound
  • High-Resolution Audio
  • Beautiful Design
  • 3 Interchangeable Cable Options

Cons:

  • Tight Fit
  • Mild Low End
  • No In-Line Volume Control
  • Headband/Cuffs Aren’t Leather

Audio-Technica Design

Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7 reviewAvailable in Black and Gun Metal Gray, the ATH-MSR7 headphones look beautiful. We tested out the Gun Metal Gray, which features light brown ear and head cushions. The leather and metal portions are blended seamlessly throughout the headphones, giving them a very elegant and professional appearance.

The overall construction is extremely well executed and assures high quality. The headphones include three different 3.5mm cables; one standard, one extended and one with an inline microphone control. Also included is a soft cloth carrying bag.

The ear pads and headband are made with soft, ultra-comfortable memory foam that holds snugly on your head. While the snug fit ensured these headphones would stay in place during my daily commute, I found them to be a little too tight after wearing them for a couple of hours in a studio-type situation.

SonicPro® Performance

Now, on to the most important element of these headphones: the sound.

Personally, I loved the clarity of the MSR7’s audio profile. If you are a bass-head, then these are not the headphones for you; the bass is present but not overwhelming. The balanced EQ produced by the 45 mm True Motion Drivers make these headphones ideal for studio work and anyone who wants to hear audio in its most unaltered form. From my Tidal account, I streamed Hi-Res Audio through these ‘bad boys.’ The precision and clarity of the sound were outstanding. Acoustic guitars, orchestras, and highly articulate music paired best with these headphones, as they output sharp detail.

The only issue with this intense clarity is that at high volumes, the headphones can produce excessive highs that are sharp to the ear. However, at moderately high volumes the clarity is maintained without any notable distortion. The MSR7’s produce sound so accurately that even the most minute peak or dip in a poorly produced audio file will be highly evident – but that could be argued as a strong suit. I would suggest any producer check their recording on these headphones before release.

Final Thoughts on the ATH-MSR7 Sonic Pro® Headphones

All in all, these headphones get our strongest recommendation. They work wonderfully as a casual over-ear headphone for the daily commuter and work equally as well for any precision-minded producer who wants to catch every detail in their mix. At $250, ATH-MSR7’s are the most affordable high-resolution audio headphones on the market – coupled with the eye-catching design and detailed sound; you cannot go wrong with Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7.[Tweet “At $250, the ATH-MSR7’s are the most affordable high-resolution headphones on the market @USAudioTechnica”]

Audio-Technica ATH-CKX9iS review

Review: Audio-Technica ATH-CKX9iS SonicFuel® In-Ear Headphones

For active audio listeners who need in-ear headphones that provide reliable stability, Audio-Technica may have the solution for you. The SonicFuel® ATH-CKX9iS is a near perfect pair of daily in-ear headphones for people who live active lives and need headphones that can keep up. We present our Audio-Technica ATH-CKX9iS review.

Audio-Technica ATH-CKX9iS review

Pros:

  • Well-constructed exterior design
  • Comfortable, lightweight fit at 5.1 ounces
  • 3 Sizes of ear stabilizers & 5 pairs of in-ear tips make for a perfect fit
  • 3.5mm L-shaped audio jack prevents wire fray
  • 13.5mm drivers
  • The flat 1.2-meter cable is tangle resistant
  • In-line control featuring microphone, volume slider, multi-function button

Cons:

  • In-line microphone positioned too low for optimal vocal pickup
  • Sensitive volume slider
  • Not waterproof or sweat-resistant
  • Upper-mids lack clarity
  • Earphones are large and protrude from ear
[envira-gallery id=”4529″]

The SonicFuel® Design and Features

The ATH-CKX9iS earbuds are very large, but their comprehensive design reveals why. The most prominent features of the ATH-CKX9iS are the C-shaped silicone rubber grips that serve to secure the earphone when you are on the move. They stay put, and you can be confident that they will stand up to any accidental pulls that might occur during activity. With three different sizes of rubber in-ear grips, four pairs of rubber tips and one pair of Comply™ foam tips; you can find the perfect combination for your ear shape and activity level.

For those who prefer to store their headphones after use, you’re in luck. The SonicFuel ATH-CKX9iS headphones come with a hard carrying case.

[envira-gallery id=”4531″]

The ATH-CKX9iS features an in-line control for audio adjustments and phone calls on the go. The in-line control includes a microphone, volume slider and a single control button, which operates the play/pause, skip and call functions. Additionally, holding the button activates Siri and GooglePlay on an Apple iPhone and Google Android devices, respectively. While the in-line control handles most functions well; the volume slider only adjusts the sound level of the speakers themselves and not of your phone. This particular slider makes for less smooth volume adjustments and the absence of a true zero. Minor issues aside, these earphones are incredibly stable and stand up to all the bouncing and other movements that would cause standard ear buds to fall out.

The SonicFuel® Sound

The ATH-CKX9iS headphones sound superb! The 13.5mm dynamic drivers produce premium quality sound performance that is sure to compliment any of your favorite tunes. The clarity of these earphones is a notable factor, and the output mix features a strong bass presence. Overall, they sound great. The highs and lows present a solid mix that proves perfect for pop, hip-hop or other high-energy genres. While useful for exercising and casual listening, these earphones are not ideal for those seeking a flat mix. Additionally, the upper-mids are not very pronounced in the mix resulting in subtle presence for sounds such as brass horns.

[envira-gallery id=”4534″]

ATH-CKX9iS Overall Performance and Final Thoughts

Overall, these ATH-CKX9iS are fantastic headphones for their price and purpose! With excellent sound, high-performance design and an Amazon price of $60; the Audio-Technica ATH-CKX9iS in-ear headphones deserve to be heard. Audio-Technica ATH-CKX9iS reviewThese are some of the best daily use headphones on the market, and for less than $100 provide an excellent alternative to many of the other manufacturer’s current traditional designs. You will love the sound these Audio-Technica’s produce.

Have you tried the Audio-Technica ATH-CKX9iS headphones? Do you agree (or disagree) with any part of this review? Let us know on social media on our Twitter or Facebook pages. And don’t hesitate to head over to the Audio-Technica website. Feel free to check out their 2016 product lineup, recently introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, NV.
